Description: 3.5-5 in. (9-12.5 cm). Coloration is dull and gray
with two rows of light colored spots on back. There is a pale line from
the eye to angle of jaw. The head is flattened and wedged shaped.
Habitats: Often found in mountain brooks, blending in the pebbles,
leaves, and debris in the streams of the mountains of North Carolina.
Habits: Feed on the larval and nymphal stages of aquatic insects.
